The improving Loyola baseball program is adding another asset to its program by adding local talent.

Archbishop Rummel pitcher Matt Villa announced his commitment to Loyola via Twitter.

A senior, Villa (6-1, 185) has started since his freshman season for the Raiders, helping lead Rummel to the Division I state championship game in 2019.

Villa was off to a fabulous start in 2020, posting a 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA. Villa has 22 strikeouts in 21 and two-third innings this season.

As a junior, Villa was 5-3 with a 2.57 ERA. Villa had 60 strikeouts in 57 innings a year ago.

Villa throws in the low 80’s with his fastball but has excellent of that pitch, along with a good breaking ball and change-up.
