Since 1997, Archbishop Rummel High School has honored over 80 distinguished men for their contributions to Raider Athletics. Today, we are pleased to announce that four additional names will be added to our roster of excellence.

Join us in congratulating Barry Hebert ’84, Jarrell Johnson ’09, Matthew Rucker ’00 and Brad Schmit ’91 as the newest members of the Archbishop Rummel Athletic Hall of Fame.

A star in track and field for the Raiders, as a junior, Barry Hebert finished third in the state in the pole vault competition. As a senior, Hebert captured the state title in the pole vault, earning All-District, All-Metro and All-State honors. Hebert captured the prestigious Rufus Award in his senior year. Hebert earned a track and field scholarship to UNO in the decathlon.

Jarrell Johnson remains the all-time leading rusher in Raider football history with 678 attempts for 4,636 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry. Johnson is also the all-time leader in Rummel history with 54 touchdowns. In his senior season of 2008, Johnson scored 27 touchdowns, the most ever by a Rummel player in a single season.

Matthew Rucker was the star of the Raider swim team in his senior season, capturing both the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter breast stroke individual state titles while helping lead Archbishop Rummel High School to a state runner-up finish. Rucker earned a scholarship to LSU, where he earned All-American honors.

A baseball star, Brad Schmit earned two-time All-District, All-Metro, and All-State honors in 1990 and 1991. As a junior in 1990, Schmit led the Catholic League in hitting, batting .532 with 28 RBI in helping lead the Raiders to the 4A state championship game. In his senior season of 1991, Schmit batted .400 with 36 RBI and made just two errors the entire season as the Raiders reached the playoffs.

The new members will be celebrated at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony later this fall. Congratulations again and Raider Pride!
