PROVO, Utah – The Southeastern Louisiana University men’s basketball team got a season-high scoring performance from Brody Rowbury and Roger McFarlane neared another double-double, but hot-shooting RV/RV BYU was too much to overcome in a 105-48 loss to the Cougars Wednesday night at the Marriott Center.

Southeastern (1-2) looked to keep it close early as McFarlane got a friendly roll from the rim on his jumper from just inside the free throw line to make the score 5-2 in the early going, but BYU (3-0) scored the next six points to make it 11-2 before another McFarlane jumper, this one along the baseline just outside the paint, cut it to 11-4. Unfortunately for the Lions, that was their last points for a while as the Cougars went on a 21-0 run before Alec Woodard finally got the Lions back on the board. SLU went to the halftime locker room trailing 52-17.

The Lions started the second half on one of the few scoring runs they would get in the contest as Nick Caldwell and McFarlane hit back-to-back buckets right out of the break to make it 52-21, but BYU responded with an 11-2 run to get the lead up to 40 points for the first time at 63-43. A Kam Burton three-pointer and a pair of Carlos Paez free throws cut that lead by five points, but got no closer the rest of the way.

McFarlane once again led the Lions in scoring on the day with 14 points, hitting six of his 13 field goal attempts, including one of three from above the arc. He also grabbed seven rebounds as he closed in on another double-double and had an assist. Rowbury hit three of his four attempts from the field and was seven of nine from the free throw line to score a season-high 13 points. He also grabbed five rebounds, had an assist, and a steal. Woodard went for nine points and grabbed four rebounds.

The Lions continue on westward for their next contest, a Saturday evening affair in the Bay Area of California against Santa Clara. Tip-off of Saturday’s contest against the Broncos (3-0) is set for 5:00 p.m. PST/7:00 p.m. CST in the Leavey Center and is set to be live streamed on ESPN+ with live stats also available.
