DEQUINCY – The DeQuincy Tigers hosted the Rosepine Eagles in a weather-shortened week nine with the 4-2A district title and playoff position on the line.

The visitors took the honors, however, as Rosepine earned a 23-6 win Thursday night.

“I can’t say enough about these kids,” said Rosepine coach Johnny Cryer. “After what they have been through the last two or three years I’m very proud of them.”

Rosepine took home the seventh district title in school history.

The first quarter consisted of a defensive chess match between the two teams before a two-yard touchdown run by Rosepine running back Seth Shirley late in the quarter gave the Eagles the 8-0 lead after the first quarter of play.

The defensive slugfest continued for most of the second quarter before a short touchdown run by DeQuincy quarterback Jake Cooper cut the Eagle lead to 8-6.

A long pass from Seth Ducote to Josh Floyd set up a four-yard touchdown run by Dalton McCallon with under a minute left to give Rosepine the 14-6 lead heading into halftime.

Rosepine drove down the field to start the third quarter, chewing up seven minutes off the clock en route to a 20-yard field goal by Dylan Callaway to extend their lead to 17-6.

A DeQuincy fumble on their next offensive drive gave Rosepine great field position to set up a two-yard touchdown run by Seth Shirley to give the Eagles a 23-6 lead to end the third quarter.
