Rod Cusachs, who coached Archbishop Rummel to its only wrestling state championship in school history in 2011, is returning to the school as head coach, Crescent City Sports has learned.

The school is expected to make a formal announcement later Friday.

Cusachs, 41, was the Raiders’ head coach from 2008-2013.

Cusachs has been at De La Salle for the last five years, including four as head coach. He guided the Cavaliers to back-to-back state Division III titles in 2016 and 2017.

Cusachs has also coached at Grace King, his alma mater, and Chalmette.

Rummel finished seventh in the Division II state championships in 2018.

Rod Cusachs, who coached the Raider wrestling team to its first and only wrestling state championship in 2011, will return to Archbishop Rummel High School for the 2018-19 school year as Head Wrestling Coach. The announcement was made Friday by school principal Marc Milano.

Currently head wrestling coach at De La Salle High School in New Orleans, Cusachs has directed the Cavaliers to two state championships and three state runner-up titles in his five years at the school.

“I am really glad we can bring Coach Cusachs back to Rummel, where he enjoyed great success. I am confident he will bring his usual enthusiasm and commitment to our Raider wrestling program,” said Jay Roth, Raider athletic director effective June 1.

At Archbishop Rummel from 2007 to 2013, Cusachs produced two Ivy-League wrestlers who wrestled at the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University.

Prior to his years at De La Salle and Archbishop Rummel, Cusachs worked at NOVA Academy and Chalmette High School.

In the classroom, Cusachs teaches mathematics and science to his students. He and his wife Kassie have three children, Luke, Audrey, and Cohen.
