New Orleans Bowl

A New Orleans tradition which has filled a really nice spot on the annual tourism calendar is on solid financial ground for the immediate future.

The R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, set for Dec. 18 at 8:15 p.m. at Caesars Superdome pitting the University of Louisiana against Marshall, will be the 21st annual version of the fine event.

That will continue with the same moniker for at least three more years.

Speaking on All Access on NASH ICON 106.1 FM Monday night, New Orleans Bowl Executive Director of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation revealed that R&L Carriers has agreed to a 3-year extension through 2024 to continue as the presenting sponsor of the bowl game.

R&L Carriers has been the presenting sponsor of the game since 2006.

“They’ve actually got on their desk, on its way to me, we haven’t announced this yet but I’ll go ahead and tell you, we’ve got a 3-year extension coming from them to take us through the 2024 game,” Ferrante said. “That is really to me says more about what our event can deliver, what it means, the value that we can create, how they’ve used that internally with their sales force as an incentive program for their employees around the country.”

Keeping the same presenting sponsor is a difficult task and has not been replicated much, at all, around the country with other bowl games.

“Every other bowl looks to us and asks, ‘how to you do that?’ Ferrante said. “They’re one of the longest tenured sponsors. I think the other may be Allstate (Sugar Bowl) of a bowl game in the industry. It says a lot about what our city has to offer. It’s the most important thing to us.”

Tickets for the game are $40 per person through Ticketmaster or group rates by contact the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation office. Both schools also have tickets as well.
