Tulane defensive coordinator Chris Hampton is leaving for a position at Oregon, first reported FootballScoop.com.

In the 2021 season, his first as the Green Wave coordinator, Hampton’s unit struggled as did most of the team during a 2-10 campaign. In 2022, the Tulane defense helped spearhead one of the great turnarounds in college football history.

After ranking 114th nationally in scoring defense and allowing 34 points per game in 2022, the Wave ranked No. 32 in scoring defense and gave up 22 points per game.

Hampton coached the Green Wave secondary for four years before joining Duke’s staff for the 2021 season. His other past coaching stops include McNeese, Arkansas State, Georgia Tech and Central Arkansas.

As a player for four years at South Carolina, he was a four-year letterwinner and a two-year starter as a safety for the Gamecocks.
