Jamar Cain

Multiple outlets are reporting that LSU has landed their new defensive line coach.

Jamar Cain, who was the linebackers and defensive ends coach at Oklahoma, was set to join his head coach Lincoln Riley at USC but Brian Kelly intercepted Cain and re-routed him to Baton Rouge.

The Sooners under Cain the past two years recorded 37 sacks in 2020 and 33 more this past season.

Cain holds strong recruiting ties to the west coast, which should prove beneficial moving forward for the Tigers. He has been viewed as a dynamic, effective recruiter everywhere he has been. The 41-year old has relative youth and energy on his side.

While at North Dakota State from 2014-’16, Cain’s star pupil was Buck Buchanan Award winner Kyle Emanuel, an FCS All-American as a senior linebacker after piling up 32.5 TFL and 19.5 sacks.

Cain played one year as a defensive lineman at Sacramento City College before moving onto New Mexico State for his final two seasons and earning second team All-Sun Belt recognition as a senior in 2002.

Earlier this week, LSU tabbed Kansas City Chiefs linebackers coach Matt House as their new defensive coordinator. Prior to Christmas, Kelly cited the importance of making the right decisions regarding his staff, despite a “sense of urgency” to find the right fits.
