If the Power 5 conferences seem destined to play conference-only football schedules this season, that’s because it’s close to being universal among the major college schools.

The Big Ten and PAC-12 have already chosen to do so with 10 conference games while the ACC has decided Wednesday to play 10 conference games plus one out of the league in a contest to be played in-state for each member.

Now it appears the SEC will follow a similar path.

The SEC is moving closer to an agreement on a conference-only schedule of 10 games for 2020, multiple sources told Sports Illustrated.

Ross Dellenger reports a majority of athletic directors approved the idea of an 10-game conference-only schedule with the move needing approval by league presidents. The confirmation of the change could come as soon as Thursday.

Meanwhile, the NCAA Board of Governors meets Tuesday to discuss potential postponement or cancellation of all fall championships. Affected sports include the FCS, soccer and volleyball.
