After Drew Brees and Saints brass came together for tackle Zach Strief’s retirement press conference Monday, the business of the future Hall of Famer’s new contract was addressed.
Multiple reports indicated Monday that the Saints and their free agent quarterback came to terms on a new contract for two years and $50 million with $27 million guaranteed:
From @gmfb: The #Saints and QB Drew Brees have struck a deal, sources tell me and @SlaterNFL. He's back… and they still have room to party in free agency. pic.twitter.com/TMLpn1FUco

The timing of the new deal is crucial because the Saints needed to wrap up a new Brees contract to void out his old one and the $18 million salary cap charge (in dead money) that would have come with it.
Drew brees not going anywhere, agreed upon two year deal 50 million 27 guaranteed and now shifting on trying to bring back jimmy graham

With Brees done, saints know what their cap, still want a 3-technique and DB but jimmy graham reunion is top priority if they can pull off

The Saints did not coax Graham to return to New Orleans, losing out on him to Green Bay. However, it is clear significant money is left over after the Brees deal for the Saints to spend on new veteran talent.
The NFL free agent signing period begins Wednesday at 3 p.m. central time.
