Williams coached the New Orleans Pelicans for five seasons between 2010 and 2015, compiling a 173-221 record before he was fired after a first-round playoff exit.
The 46-year-old spent the 2015-16 season as an assistant with the Oklahoma City Thunder before leaving the league briefly to tend to his family after the tragic death of his wife Ingrid Williams.
Williams rejoined the league by taking the vice president of basketball operations in 2016 for the San Antonio Spurs.
