Keytaon Thompson, Mississippi State vs Ole Miss

For the second time in less than a year, Mississippi State quarterback and New Orleans native Keytaon Thompson is reportedly in the NCAA’s transfer portal.

Thompson, the former Louisiana Mr. Football who led Landry-Walker to the 2016 Class 5A championship, has re-entered the portal, according to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz.

Thompson, who also entered the portal in August after losing a battle for the starting quarterback’s job, ultimately decided to remain as a backup at State last fall. He only played in one game last season without attempting a pass after accounting for more than 1,500 yards of offense in his first two seasons in Starkville.

Tulane has reportedly been in the market for a transfer quarterback, so there may be an opportunity for the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder to come home. His dual-threat skills would be a solid fit in Willie Fritz and Will Hall’s offense.

As a graduate transfer, Thompson would be eligible immediately. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Thompson led the Chargin’ Buccaneers to the 5A title, scoring 50 or more points in each of their five playoff games. The four-star recruit was rated as the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the nation and the No. 7 prospect in Louisiana.
