Report: McKinley athletic programs on probation for two years

While the LHSAA has not publicly released a ruling, the East Baton Rouge Parish school system released a statement regarding rumored sanctions given to McKinley High School.

The statement issued via email late Monday night by Gwynn Shamlin, the East Baton Rouge Parish school system’s director of communication, states that the LHSAA has placed McKinley’s sports programs on probation for two years and fined the school $2,500.

THE STATEMENT:
“The East Baton Rouge Parish School System was made aware of sanctions issued by the LHSAA to McKinley High School’s athletic programs. Based on the sanction issued April 13, 2018 all athletic programs at McKinley High School shall be on probation for two calendar years. The LHSAA will revoke 4 coaches LHSAA/LHSCA cards, but coaching privileges remain unchanged for one calendar year from the date of the ruling. The school will pay a penalty of $2,500. Student-athletes were not penalized based off of this sanction. The East Baton Rouge Parish School System will continue to make every effort to remain in compliance with the LHSAA.”

Most notably, the statement rebuts rumors that had multiple coaches at the school suspended from coaching for one year. Instead, it says four coaches will have their LHSCA coach’s card privileges revoked for one year. Read more from The Advocate.
