Ed Orgeron has decided that Joe Burrow will be LSU’s starting quarterback when the Tigers take the field against Miami on Sunday night, SI.com first reported.

LSU Sports Information confirmed the news with the release of LSU’s depth chart for the season opener against the Hurricanes.

During his weekly press conference Monday, Orgeron declined to name his starter publicly because he intended to tell Tigers quarterbacks Burrow and Myles Brennan along with the team first.

The graduate transfer Burrow was given the nod over sophomore Brennan. Two other scholarship quarterbacks who competed for the job –  Lowell Narcisse and Justin McMillan –  transferred to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Tulane respectively.

Burrow served as the backup to Ohio State starter J.T. Barrett in 2016 and 2017. Brennan played in six games as a true freshman last season behind former LSU starter Danny Etling.
