Report: Teddy Bridgewater bypasses deal with Dolphins to re-sign with Saints
The Saints are keeping their primary insurance policy behind Drew Brees.
New Orleans is expected to re-sign backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, “who had a bigger proposed deal from the Miami Dolphins” according to a source of the NFL Network’s Jane Slater.

However, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins were not “big players” for Bridgewater. No matter who’s accurate on that count, the backup to Brees is staying put.
The 26-year-old Bridgewater joined the Saints in August 2018 via trade from the New York Jets during the preseason. The former Minnesota Vikings first round pick is 17-12 as a starter and was named to the 2015 Pro Bowl.
Many thought Bridgewater would leave New Orleans for a a starting opportunity. To retain a proven QB as a backup and perhaps have a starter of the future as well, the Saints may even be in the mood to dance to their good fortune.
I asked Saints Head Coach Sean Payton at combine who he was going after at quarterback knowing Drew Brees could be done soon…he said I have my guy. His name is Teddy Bridgewater. #saints
