COVINGTON – It is safe to say that St. Paul’s sophomore pitcher Kade Anderson has a promising future.

Make that very promising.

An LSU commit already, Anderson displayed his vast promise, pitching a complete game as the Wolves shutout Holy Cross 6-0 Friday night at Heap Field in a game seen live at CrescentCitySports.com.

Anderson pitched a four-hitter, walking two and striking out six, using 99 pitches to remain unbeaten on the season.

In the process, Anderson improved to 5-0 on the season and his eye-popping numbers include 33 innings pitched, allowing just one run on nine hits with seven walks and 53 strikeouts in seven appearances.

The Wolves took the lead in the bottom of the second on a long double by Matthew Russo, a wild pitch which advanced him to third base and an RBI groundout by Brian Lea to make it 1-0.

St. Paul’s got a big insurance run in the bottom of the fifth as Hunter Corass singled, advanced on a passed ball, stole third and scores on an RBI single by Steven Spalitta to make it 2-0.

The Wolves put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning with four runs. The first run scored on a wild pitch before Aiden Barrios and Gavin Bouterie each singled home a run and Anderson delivered the final run with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.

Tulane commit Chandler Welch started for Holy Cross and took the loss, going five and 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits. Welch walked two and struck out four. Edward Muhleisen allowed one run and two hits in 2/3 innings.

Loyola commit Josh Orr had a double for the Tigers, whose best chance to score came in the top of the first inning when Orr doubled and Jace Kaufmann singled to left. Orr tried to score but was gunned down by leftfielder Cooper Winchester at the plate.

The win was the fifth straight for St. Paul’s (11-3) while the loss snapped a five-game win streak for Holy Cross (11-4).

The Wolves and Tigers will conclude the 3-game series at Tiger Park Saturday at 4 p.m. with a doubleheader.
