NEW ORLEANS – Aiden Corbello treated it just like any other kick.

The Jesuit senior booted a 24-yard field goal in overtime to give the Blue Jays a 16-13 victory over Slidell at Tad Gormley Stadium in a game broadcast live Thursday night on Crescent City Sports.

Corbello’s field goal was his third of the game, along with a 45-yarder on the final play of the first half and a 38-yard boot with 4:24 remaining that forced overtime.

Slidell had the ball first in overtime but could not score in four downs, passing on a 22-yard field goal try and instead missing on a pass play on fourth down. Jesuit, which won the toss in OT and deferred, ran it twice with Jasper Parker to reach the 6-yard line before kicking the winning field goal on third down – Jesuit’s first and only lead of the game.

In a game that was seemingly headed for halftime scoreless, the teams combined for 10 points in the final 25 seconds of the second quarter.

Slidell took a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run by quarterback Luke Guidry and the PAT by Mia Decker. The Tigers had a short field after Beau Perez’s pass was intercepted by Austin Buell with 1:36 left in the half.

Jesuit, which had 26 yards through the first 23 minutes, got a 16-yard run from Perez and a 15-yard pass from Perez to Jace Larsen to reach the Slidell 28. It appeared that time had expired, but the clock was reset to 1 second. Corbello then kicked his first field goal to get the Jays on the board.

A fourth-down 13-yard pass from Guidry to Jahyde Williams gave Slidell a 13-3 lead after three quarters.

The Blue Jays could not get any running game going until the fourth quarter, when Parker helped ignite the rally.

Parker had eight carries on an 11-play, 50-yard drive, including a 1-yard touchdown run, to make it 13-10 with 8:24 left.

A sack by Braden Helm and recovery by Joey Haase at the Slidell 29 with 6:10 left put Jesuit back in business. The Blue Jays could not get a first down, however, and Corbello’s second field goal tied the game.

Jesuit’s chance at a winning drive in regulation stalled at the Slidell 44 with just over a minute remaining.
