Louisiana Tech expanded their 2018 class by one Thursday. Already having inked 14 prospects in the early signing period, the Bulldogs added 3 star athlete Derek “Skeeter” Turner II from West Feliciana as a commitment.

The 5-foot-11, 190 pound prospect with a 4.45 forty time rejected offers from Auburn and TCU. He visited both campuses. Tulane, Kansas State, Army, Arkansas State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, ULL and Southern Miss also extended offers as well so La. Tech overcame strong competition for Turner’s pledge.

As a quarterback and safety for West Feliciana, Turner helped the Saints post a 14-1 mark and win the Class 3A state championship over Richwood for his school’s first state title. He was instrumental in the finals, accounting for 140 rushing yards on 13 carries, including a 73 yard scamper for one score. Turner also runs the 100 (10.8), 200 (21.67) and 400 meters (48.44) in track.

Turner will play strong safety in college. A very strong closing tackler, he comes up with big hits to force turnovers and displays great reflexes. Turner will be the fourth safety for La. Tech in their ’18 class.
