Recruiting: Updating 2019 efforts for Green Wave, Ragin’ Cajuns
The early signing period in college football is about a month away, and things are beginning to take shape for the 2019 signing classes coast to coast.
Tulane and ULL are focusing on upgrading their rosters with more work to do to complete their classes, especially the Green Wave who currently have 10 known pledges. The Ragin Cajuns have 16 verbals. Here are a few targets for both programs.
The Green Wave are selling the opportunity to see immediate playing time in the ‘Power 6’ AAC. Many of these prospects are college ready:
WR Malik Tolbert (6’3-170) 3 star from Apopka, Fla.
It seems like a 2 horse race between Tulane and Marshall. The Thundering Herd may have the inside track. Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Toledo and UCF are others chasing.
TE Neal Johnson (6’4-220) 3 star from Mesquite, Tex.
ULL and Tulane are both in on him. Western Kentucky is in the mix. He can split out as a receiver with good hands. Johnson makes tough catch.
DE Marcus Harris (6’3-250) 3 star from Montgomery, Alabama.
A good student with at 3.24 GPA, he had 102 stops this season with 29 TFL and 15 sacks. Florida Atlantic, Tulane and Toledo make up his top three. Flies off the edge with a hot motor. Harris is very disruptive and shows a great first step.
DT Brian Merritt (6’0-293) 3 star Moultrie, Ga.
His top seven are Tulane, South Fla., Pittsburgh, Middle Tennessee, Georgia State, UAB and West Virginia.
DB Charvis Thornton (5’10-180) 3 star from Southern Lab
Tulane, Memphis, La. Tech and Kansas are interested but Memphis holds a slight lead.
ATH Roger Yarde (6’1-205) Sebring, Fla.
Tulane is in tussle with West Virginia and South Florida for the prep strong safety, OLB and RB. Future may be on defense.
DB Tyler Scott (5’10-181) 3 star from Fort Lauderdale.
Tulane holds advantage over North Carolina State in the two-horse race.
Meanwhile, the Cajuns are eyeing a few prospects to fill out this class including the aforementioned Neal Johnson. Two more to watch:
WR Kevin Barnett (6’3-195) 3 star Hattiesburg, Miss.
ULL and Northwestern University are his top two.
OG Tyler Brown (6’3-197) Madison, Miss.
Jackson State, ULL and Southern Miss are top choices.
