This Wednesday, the traditional national signing day, looms large for the remaining undecided prospects in the 2019 class. There are still a few big fish for football programs to reel in so recruiters are baiting their hooks hoping to snag one or more of them.

The biggest target is Amite’s Ishmael Sopsher, the talk of the ’19 signing class for the past two seasons. It will all come to a head very soon. LSU, Alabama and maybe Ole Miss are the finalists in the sweepstakes for the huge defensive tackle.

Amite teammate Devonta Lee is another primary target. LSU appears to have a slight lead with Alabama and Texas A&M trailing for the talented wide receiver and cornerback prospect.

Warren Easton quarterback Lance Legendre’s recruiting has been all over the place. The dual-threat currently has Florida State, Tennessee and Miami as his final three. That could possibly change at the 11th hour.

Runing back Tyreese Jackson (6-0, 216) from Westgate lists Utah State, Colorado State and Prairie View as his top three. He breaks tackles with great lower body strength due to his 485-pounds in the squat. He also as posted a 35.7″ vertical.

Defensive back Jarious Monroe (6-1, 184, 4.6 speed) from East St. John has good hips and doesn’t shy away from contact. Nicholls, Southern, NW State, Idaho, McNeese, SLU and Western Kentucky are in the mix.

Offensive guard Jacques Wallace (6-4, 280), a Southern Lab product with a 425-pound squat to his credit, has Georgia State, Texas State, Memphis, Tulane and New Mexico State on the chase.

Running back Ahmad Antoine (5-9, 175, 4.5 forty),a  3 star out of Edna Karr, is a patient runner who sees backside holes, has an extra gear and breaks tackles. SLU, Houston, Boston College, Nicholls, Ga. Tech, Troy, Arkansas State, Toledo, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Kansas, La. Tech, Southern Miss and Indiana are all known suitors.

Wide receiver Kash Foley (6-0, 180, 4.5 forty) from Riverside Academy is another 3 star prospect who models his style after Odell Beckham, Jr. A good athlete and student, he squats 340 lbs. and has a  3.0 GPA. His long list of potentials includes Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Tulane, UAB, ULL, Texas State, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky.

Anthony Shaffer (6-0, 202), a 3 star safety out of Central in Baton Rouge, has  SMU, Idaho, Southern, Louisiana College and Jackson State as finalists.

Defensive tackle Lantrell Alexander (6-2, 275) out of Albany is deciding between Kentucky, SLU, ULL and Oregon State.

Running back Terrell Brown (6-0, 185)from  Helen Cox  is a violent, physical runner who fights for additional yards. He also has vision to be an effective cutback runner. Brown had 199 yards (on nine yards per carry) and four touchdowns in game against Sophie B. Wright this season. Arkansas, La. Tech, NW State, Texas State, UTSA, UAB and South Alabama are in pursuit.

Defensive end Billy Sonnier (6-6, 225), a 3 star from Northside High, seems to have  TCU as his frontrunner. Kansas, ULL, Kentucky, Miss. State, Maryland, Navy, Ole Miss, Tulane and Southern Miss are still in it.  Sonnier was hoping for a LSU offer that never arrived.

Kendaris “Batman” Moses (6-3, 173), a Southern Lab safety has offers from Tennessee, SMU, South Alabama and Jackson State.

Another Baton Rouge area safety, Madison Prep’s Bertrand Carroll (5-11, 180) is highly sought by ULL, Arkansas State, Kentucky, Colorado State, Idaho, Memphis, Tulane, Southern Miss and Southern. He has also run300 meter hurdles, threw javelin and participated on 4 X 100, 4 X 200 and 4 X 400 relay teams.

Dywan “Superman” Griffin (6-1, 185) out of Landry-Walker, has good ball skills, lots of desire and intensity. He doubled as an extraordinary punt returner in football and a superb point guard prospect in basketball. Griffin has a high hoops IQ and could play on next level on hardwood, which makes sense since he is the cousin of Tyree Griffin (Southern Miss guard) and Bo McCalebb, (the all-time leading scorer in UNO and Sun Belt Conference basketball history).  Football offers from UTSA and Tennessee and basketball offers including Southern Miss, Nicholls and Coastal Carolina give Griffin plenty to ponder in the coming weeks and months..
