Recruiting: St. James QB Shamar Smith commits to UTSA
St. James quarterback Shamar Smith is headed to UTSA to play his college football for head coach Frank Wilson.
The 3 star prospect joins other locals already committed to the Roadrunners for 2020 class – LB Kelin Burrle ( Helen Cox), CB Raekwon Starks (Helen Cox) and CB Brandon James (John Ehret). UTSA now has 16 total pledges.
The 5-foot-10, 174-pound Smith is a super athletic dual threat. He fielded offers from Navy, Air Force, Texas State, Tulane, Kansas, Southern Miss, Colorado, Arkansas State, Utah State, North Texas, South Alabama, Toledo, ULL, UNLV, Colorado State and Troy.
Currently the quarterback for the Class 3A’s top-ranked Wildcats, Smith seems destined for the slot position in college. He has accounted for 599 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns, passing for an additional 662 yards and six scores this season for his 6-0 squad.
Smith also competes in the 100 and 200 meter events as well as the 110 and 300 meter hurdles for the St. Jams track team. He serves as the anchor for relay events.
