Entering his season at Archbishop Rummel, infielder Jake Cabeceiras has made his future intentions known, committing to the University of New Orleans to play college baseball for Blake Dean for the class of 2021.

Cabeceiras (6-0, 165) batted .212 with a triple, a home run and eight RBI in 11 games of the abbreviated prep baseball season for the Raiders in 2020.

Cabeceiras follows his father Joey to UNO. Cabeceiras pitched for the Privateers under Tom Schwaner in the mid 1990’s after starring at Jesuit.

Cabeceiras transferred to Rummel from Country Day for the 2018-19 school year. He will be a senior this fall at Rummel.

Cabeceiras played shortstop for the Raiders prior to the season being shut down.

“I think Jake’s baseball actions, his fundamentals on defense, are very solid,” Rummel coach Frank Cazeaux said. “He can play with anybody there. He’s got great hands, great vision, great feet. He’s a pretty athletic kid. I think he will do good things at UNO. I think they are getting a player that is going to help them tremendously. We expect him to be a leader next season. I think this will relax Jake a bit. He is a good kid.”
