LSU has added its first quarterback commitment for the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Garrett Nussmeier announced his decision Monday:

The son of former New Orleans Saints quarterback Doug Nussmeier is the ninth 2021 commitment for the Tigers. He chose the Tigers over offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, Georgia, SMU, Colorado, Arkansas, Baylor, Boise State, Arizona State, Ga. Tech, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Oregon State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Purdue, Washington State and Vanderbilt. The younger Nusmeier attended camp at LSU last summer.

A consensus top-10 pro-style passer in his class nationally, the 6-foot-2 Nussmeier threw for 3,788 yards and 38 touchdowns while completing nearly 67% of his passes as a junior for Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas.

Steve Ensminger was very instrumental in Nussmeier’s recruitment but new LSU assistant Scott Linehan, added to staff this spring to assist Ensminger with the offensive game planning, also played a key role. Linehan was the offensive coordinator at Idaho when Garrett’s father Doug was the record-setting QB for the Vandals from 1992-’93. The elder Nussmeier and Linehan also coached together on the Dallas Cowboys staff recently.

Serving as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at a number of stops, Doug has given Garrett access to closely watch some of the best players at the position in the country including A.J. McCarron (Alabama), Jake Locker (Washington), Drew Stanton (Michigan State) and Dak Prescott (Cowboys).

Garrett possesses outstanding skills. The ball flies out of his hand, and he moves around well in the pocket. Blessed with good mobility, he can make all the necessary throws.
