One of the more accurate and successful high school quarterbacks in the metro New Orleans area, Isidore Newman’s Martin Butcher has committed to Georgetown University.

The 6-foot-1, 190 pound slinger considered offers from UAB, Western Illinois and Virginia Military before committing to the Hoyas.

Butcher, a pro style passer, broke Newman alum Peyton Manning’s school record for single-season passing yards in 2018. Manning threw for 2,703 yards in 1993 as a senior while Butcher accounted for 2,715 yards with 40 touchdown passes and only three interceptions (64% completions). He also had 2,840 yards passing with 31 touchdowns (66%) as a junior in ’17.

The right-handed passer proved he can take over a game. In 2017, Butcher threw for 416 yards and four touchdowns against Assumption. This past season, he tossed for 362 yards with four touchdowns in a contest against Riverside Academy.

Butcher makes tight throws, has good ball placement and makes tear drop tosses over the top of coverage. A very smart quarterback under the tulelage of Newman head coach Nelson Stewart, Butcher reads coverage and processes quickly.

As the second QB committed to the Hoyas in the ’19 class, Butcher joins Tyler Knoop from North Richland Hills, Texas.
