Jalen Brown

LSU continued their hot streak on the recruiting trail Friday with the commitment of Miami prep wide receiver Jalen Brown.

The five-star recruit paired his final list down to LSU, Miami, Michigan, Florida State and Texas, before deciding in favor of the Purple and Gold. Brown made an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge on March 11 and his official stop on June 17. He also visited Michigan in June.

LSU wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton did a remarkable job with Brown in fertile out-of-state recruiting territory.

The 6-1, 170 pounder snared 56 passes last season for 1,033 yards and 11 touchdowns for Gulliver Prep. Brown has deep speed with a 10.66 hundred meter timing.

A consensus top five wideout in the 2023 class, Brown can end up as the highest rated receiver signed by the Tigers since Lutcher’s Jarvis Landry was ranked No. 2 in 2011 recruiting class. Terrace Marshall from Parkway was the No. 3 ranked wideout in the 2018 class.

Brown has elite acceleration coming out of his cuts with game changing skills. He creates great separation in routes and stretched the field vertically. His ability to turn a short gain into a long touchdown is coveted. Due to his slight build, Brown does not challenge on the inside routes.

The Miami Hurricanes pulled out all stops to keep the hometown product so LSU does not expect them to throw in the towel as the recruiting process continues.

The first commitment for the Tigers for the 2023 recruiting cycle was North Caddo’s Omarion Miller but he is now pledged to Nebraska. Miller made an official visit to Lincoln, where former LSU receiver coach Mickey Joseph has handled the recruiting for the Cornhuskers. Miller gave his verbal on July 5.

The trade off of sorts still favors the Tigers according to rankings with Miller just outside the top 20 at his position nationally.

Catholic-Baton Rouge’s Shelton Sampson (6-4, 181) has yet to make up his mind. The consensus four-star is still considering LSU, Alabama, Florida State, Texas A&M and Michigan. The hometown Tigers are still considered a heavy favorite to land him.
