Recruiting: Memphis lands commitment from Ehret LB Andrew Jones
John Ehret’s Andrew Jones became the 14th overall pledge in 2021 recruiting class for the Memphis Tigers.
The 6-foot, 208 pounder considered offers from Florida State, Arizona, Texas, Tulane, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Utah, Washington State, Mississippi State, Georgia, Houston, Kansas, ULL, ULM and Louisville.
Jones has been a heat-seeking missile for the Patriot defense, recording an impressive 137 tackles in 2019. He will add bulk and strength as he continues his development while trying to maintain his impressive closing speed (4.55 in the 40).
Former John Ehret head coach Marcus Scott, now at the helm at Destrehan, feels Jones has a bright future.
“Andrew is very instinctive and has that rare combination of speed, instincts and explosiveness,” Scott explained. “He has great ball skills. He would cover 12-15 yards to make a play. He’s everywhere. He is becoming a student of the game.”
Jones has also made an impact on offense at running back when needed. “He’s great with the ball,” Scott said. “He gets his hands on the ball, he will score. I’m really proud of him. He’s very deserving. He will make it.”
Another ex-Ehret linebacker has made a move in his playing career.
Former 2019 LSU signee Donte Starks (6-1, 225) is headed to Coahoma Community College for one semester. He will then be eligible to go through the recruiting process once again with three years of eligibility remaining.
