After much deliberation, Lafayette Christian Academy safety Sage Ryan committed to LSU after narrowing his decision down to the Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Ryan, the second overall prospect in the state’s 2021 class, is the fourth ranked nickel back in the country and the 90th rated prospect by 247Sports.com. He represents the 20th commitment for LSU’s current class and the third safety in the class for the Purple and Gold.

LSU also has commitments from safeties Khari Gee (Atlanta, Ga.) and Matthew Langlois (New Roads, La.).

The 6-foot, 193-pound Ryan turns a 4.45 40-time. Nicknamed Flash, he also possesses a 36″ vertical. Ryan is blessed with explosive skills and lightning quick reactions He is a fierce tackler who outstanding in space. He’s a star on offense for LCA as well.

Nick Saban’s 69th birthday is today, and Ryan was a prospect he deeply coveted after already corralling another top 2021 Louisiana prospect, four-star safety Kaine Williams from john Ehret.

Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding was assigned to the case for the Tide. Golding is a Hammond native who spent two seasons in the same role for the Southeastern Lions.

Family matters though. Kevin Faulk, Ryan’s cousin, and Corey Raymond collaborated for the recruiting process. Ryan’s uncle, former LSU linebacker Trev Faulk, served as the moderator for the final announcement Saturday and embraced Ryan for a long and emotional moment.

The process was reminiscent of 2012 when the state’s top player, Landon Collins, decided on Alabama over LSU at the Under Armour All-Star Game. Ed Orgeron vowed to put a wall around the border around the state to keep top prospects in house, and this time he did.

Ryan is in the mold of former LSU safety Jamal Adams, now in the NFL, as an enforcer. His athleticism and size are similar to ex-Tiger safeties Jalen Mills and Brandon Taylor.

ON THE TRAIL
Walker wide receiver Brian Thomas and Fairfax, Va. offensive lineman Tristan Leigh are two more coveted LSU recruits who could join the fray for 2021 fairly soon.

St. Thomas More wide receiver Jack Bech recently received a much-desired offer from LSU and immediately decommitted from Vanderbilt. The 6-foot-2, 213 pounder with 4.6 speed has deep LSU ties. His uncles, Brett and Blaine Bech, both played receiver for the Tigers.

Jack is a physical blocker and terrific route runner who uses his body to shield the defender. He displays elite footwork and quick acceleration out of cuts. He has been a top redzone option for the Cougars and LSU commitment QB Walker Howard.

Two other recruits in Texas who are highly coveted by Oklahoma have LSU among their favorites.

Billy Bowman (5-10, 175), a four-star athlete from Denton, runs a 10.84 hundred. He is a big time playmaker on either side of the ball as a receiver and cornerback.
