Recruiting: John Curtis LB Jayden Barfield commits to Alcorn State
John Curtis has produced some solid middle linebackers who have gone onto play well on the collegiate level in recent years: Eric Thomas (Tulane), Nate Evans (UCF) and Kenny Young (UCLA, Baltimore Ravens)
Perhaps the next in line, Jayden Barfield has decided to continue his football career at Alcorn State. He had an additional offer from Eastern Illinois and drew interest from Memphis, Miss. State, Tulane, Middle Tennessee and South Alabama.
The 6-foot-1, 230 pounder tallied 83 tackles in 2018 including 10 tackles for loss and eight sacks plus one interception for the Patriots.
Barfield plays well in space and takes great angles to the ball. He is a downhill tackler who blows through the “A” gap on blitzes. Barfield can drop in the flat in coverage.
