Class of 2022 Hahnville offensive tackle Jarian Shelby committed to Tulane this week.

The 6-foot-3, 290 pounder chose the Green Wave over an offer from Louisiana-Lafayette. Shelby is a three-year starter for the Tigers and coach Daniel Luquet.

“He’s one of the best I’ve ever been around,” Luquet said. “He runs a 4.9 in the 40-yard dash. He is faster than some skill guys. He has long arms and is athletic. He is really good in space and gets to the second level very well but we can run behind him as well with his strength. His movement allows him to pass block well. He is a great student in the classroom.

Hahnville has started to become a bit of a pipeline for Tulane, with defensive lineman Adonis Friloux and wide receiver Jha’Quan Jackson already with the Green Wave.

“They treat our kids right,” Luquet said. “That helps a lot in recruiting. We are a tight-knit family and it is that way at Tulane as well. He is an excellent left tackle but he is good enough to play all five spots up front, to play wherever they want him so he can get on the field as fast as possible. That is the kind of kid he is. He will do whatever it takes to contribute.”

Tulane has 12 commits for its 2022 class.
