Former Northlake Christian defensive end Caleb Sampson has changed his mind a few times since the 2017 recruiting period, but he hopes the latest move is the best one.

The 6-foot-4, 270 pounder at Coahoma Community College committed Tuesday to Les Miles and the Kansas Jayhawks. Sampson originally signed with and reported to Missouri in ’17. Before that, he had committed to Tulane.

Sampson pledged to Western Kentucky on December 2, but after getting an offer from Kansas the very next day, he switched directions. He has three years of eligibility for the Jayhawks. Other offers from Old Dominion, Houston, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, Arkansas Monticello, UTEP, Eastern Illinois, Nicholls and Texas State gave Sampson much to ponder. His decision gives Kansas eight commitments for the 2019 class.

St. Augustine offensive guard Ted Melson (6-3, 300) committed to Lamar, giving the Cardinals two commits for ’19. South Alabama, SE Missouri State, Tennessee State, Northwestern State, Nicholls, Jackson State and Texas State were other options.

Melson is a mauler, specializing in pancake blocks but he also gets to second level and moves his feet well. He can pull and trap with good kick out blocks.

Southeastern La. now has three pledges for 2019 with the commitment of tight end Hayden Hagler (6-3, 225) from Sulphur High.
