The shutdown of in-person recruiting due to COVID-19 pandemic has not stopped LSU from making progress on its 2021 football commitment class.

Winter Park, Florida prep safety Dakota Mitchell committed Thursday to the Tigers.

The 5-11, 170-pounder pared his finalists down to SEC powers Georgia and Florida. had offers from LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ga. Tech, Tennessee, West Va., Illinois, Louisville, Clemson, Syracuse, South Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas State, Wake Forest, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, Michigan, Miami, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh and Va. Tech. He said that he was “probably shutting it all down.”

Mitchell has previously made plans for an official visit to LSU for May 8 and Alabama for June 18 but both are obviously in limbo due to the virus concerns.

The fifth known pledge for LSU’s 2021 class, Mitchell is ranked as the 21st safety nationally. LSU assistant Bill Busch was responsible for his recruitment.

Mitchell possesses impressive athleticism and great instincts, closing on plays quickly. He tackles well in space, finds the ball quickly and tackles with a vengeance upon his arrival.

His commitment represents an outstanding demonstration of recruiting efforts by the LSU staff in light of the limited contact. LSU didn’t miss a beat and secured an outstanding prospect for the future.
