Edna Karr’s Michael Richard became Louisiana Tech’s 10th commitment in their 2023 football recruiting class Sunday.

The defensive back has committed to UTSA on April 24 but backed off July 7.

The 5-10, 170-pound Richard fielded offers from Tulane, Mississippi State, Duke, Arkansas, Memphis,, Virginia, Arkansas State, Nicholls, Jackson State, Southeastern La. and Grambling.

The versatile defender is capable of lining up at cornerback, safety or nickel back but seems destined to be a college free safety. He runs a reported 4.52.

Richard shines when he roams center field in the secondary and closes on the ball quickly. He reads the quarterback’s eyes to diagnose the action. Richard can also play in the box, adept at stuffing the run.

Louisiana Tech now has two commitments from metro New Orleans for 2023, with Richard joining St. Augustine offensive lineman Troy Smith.
