Recruiting: Defensive tackle Elijah Champagne, offensive tackle Matthew Lombardi commit to Tulane
Tulane has added 2020 football commitments from a couple of players who can help them in the trenches.
Defensive tackle Elijah Champagne from Tomball, Texas recorded 42 stops including nine for loss and eight sacks last season.
The 6-foot-2, 266 pounder shows good anticipation, plays the run well and runs horizontally. He can play 3 or 5 technique. Champagne brings pressure and crashes down to disrupt plays. He had additional offers from Navy, New Mexico, UTEP, Texas State, Wyoming, Yale, Air Force, Incarnate Word and Houston Baptist.
Offensive tackle Matthew Lombardi (6-7, 288), a St. Joseph’s Prep product out of Philadelphia, had offers from Fordham, Richmond, Villanova, Albany, Monmouth, Toledo, Arizona State and Bowling Green.
Lombardi has length and good reach as pass blocker on the edge but sometimes plays a little high. He maintains his blocks with opponents throughout plays and doesn’t lunge. Lombard also comes off ball with good pad level.
