Louisiana’s top ranked 2024 prospect is headed west.

Dominating defensive tackle Dominick McKinley from Acadiana High School paired his list down to LSU, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M before announcing Friday he has committed to the Aggies.

Throughout the past decade, LSU has managed to gain a commitment from eight of the top ten prospects in the Pelican state in any given year. If McKinley’s commitment holds, the Tigers will have missed out on three top overall state recruits in the decade – McKinley, Arch Manning (2023, Texas) and DeVonta Smith (2017, Alabama).

McKinley is a top five rated 2024 defensive tackle nationally and the 17th overall prospect according to On3. He recorded 86 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and a pair of interceptions last season.

His younger brother Darryus is a top prospect in the 2026 class and has LSU among his favorites along with Texas A&M, Colorado, Tulane, Texas, Tennessee, Auburn, Oklahoma and Miami.

The 6-foot-6, 285 pounder attended the recent Bayou Splash event at LSU and was recruited by LSU assistants Frank Wilson and Sherman Wilson.

LSU will need to find reinforcements for their defensive line interior. Maason Smith, Jacobian Guillory, and Mekhi Wingo will have decisions to make at the conclusion of the ’23 season as all will be NFL Draft eligible.
