Recruiting: 2024 safety Maurice Williams commits to LSU

LSU gained their first commitment for the 2024 class Saturday.

Pearland, Texas safety Maurice Williams, Jr. made his intentions known via social media.

The 6-0, 190 pounder out of Shadow Creek High School considered offers from Michigan, USC, TCU, Baylor, Houston, Kansas, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Florida State, UTSA and Arkansas. Williams is the eighth rated safety in the ’24 class. His offer from the Tigers was made on April 22.

Williams, who runs a 11.39 in the 100 meters, displays great range in the secondary. He is is flexible enough to line up at either free or strong safety. Williams takes good angles to the ball, breaks down well and attacks ball carriers. He is sure tackler in the open field and excels on special teams.

As a sophomore last season, he recorded 50 stops with a pair for loss and one interception.

LSU safeties coach Kerry Cooks with defensive coordinator Matt House have collaborated on the recruiting process.
