As the early signing period approaches this week, programs are more focused on who will fit their given profile. Slots for the 2021 period are vital to a team’s success for the next few seasons.

Tulane landed a commitment Saturday from an intriguing 2021 prospect who possesses the skills to either play football or basketball on the collegiate level.

Wide receiver Jeff Nwankwo out of Putnam City North in Oklahoma City became the Green Wave’s 17th commitment for the upcoming signing period. He considered offers from Tulsa, Cornell, Yale, Army and Eastern Michigan.

As a forward on the hardwood, the 6-foot-6, 200 pounder drew interest from some institutions in basketball.

Because of his skills on the basketball court, Nwankwo didn’t play high school football until this season when he snared 21 passes for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns. He previously gave football a try during his pre-junior high school days.

Nwankwo displays outstanding potential with physical skills, athleticism and raw ability, yet shows a great willingness to learn. He appears to have great upside. Having played basketball with such success, he has good body control and knows how to box the defensive back away from the ball. His good ball skills and leaping ability to go along with his length make him an ideal redzone target.

Tulane extended an offer on Nov. 5 to Nwanko, who represents their third wide receiver pledge thus far in this class.
