League’s leading scorer averaged 28.5 points against Cal State-Northridge and Houston

FRISCO, Texas – New Orleans senior guard Randi Brown was named the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.

The Privateers (1-2) have two road games in week three, first heading to face Miami on Tuesday at 10 a.m. CT, followed by a trip to Mobile for a game against South Alabama on Friday at 7:05 p.m.

The Southland’s reigning leading scorer from 2016 led the Privateers to a 1-1 record in the Preseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament. She led all scorers with 38 points in a come-from-behind win over Cal State-Northridge, including two consecutive three-pointers to bring UNO back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Brown averaged 28.5 points a game over two games in week two.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
