NEW ORLEANS – Heavy rain suspended play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament Friday afternoon at the MLB Urban Youth Academy at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

Play was halted for the final time just after Alabama State had taken a 3-2 lead over Prairie View A&M in the bottom of the eighth inning of the second of four scheduled games of the day.

The suspended game will be resumed at 9 a.m. Saturday. The winner will face Grambling at 1 p.m.

In the other bracket, Jackson State – which defeated Alcorn State 4-3 in the only completed game Friday – will face Texas Southern at 10 a.m.

Grambling and Texas Southern need just one win to advance to Sunday afternoon’s championship game.
