LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Baseball Coach Matt Deggs needed only one word to describe the team’s official start to fall practice on Tuesday at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field at Russo Park.

“Amazing,” the fourth-year coach said.

Coming off a 37-win season which was highlighted by a Sun Belt Conference championship and NCAA Regional appearance, Louisiana opened up its first full-team workouts which will run through November 13.

Louisiana went through a simulated intrasquad on its first day and will play three daily intrasquads beginning on Thursday at noon. The intrasquads are open to the public.

“I love this group and they’ve grown up a lot,” Deggs said of his team which returns seven position starters. “We’ve added some talented guys to the mix and it’s just a matter of everyone getting on the same page. It took last year’s team awhile, but we’re starting this year further along.

“We’re about where I thought. It’s going to be hard to get through our lineup. We’ve got some guys in the lineup who are going to battle at the plate, take pitches and get deep in the count. We hit the ball hard today, but the guys on the mound didn’t back up. I thought they pitched well today.”

Louisiana will play in a pair of fall scrimmages beginning on Oct. 29 at Tulane. The Ragin’ Cajuns will close out fall practice on Sunday, Nov. 13 when it hosts LSU in a fall exhibition.

The 2023 schedule will be released later this month. Season ticket prices have been set for the 2023 season with renewals available at RaginCajuns.com/tickets. Fans wishing to upgrade their tickets can visit RaginCajuns.com/BSBupgrade.
