Privateers’ Rehema Franklin named Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Franklin registers career-high 33 points in non-conference finale

FRISCO, Texas – New Orleans’ Rehema Franklin is the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The senior pushed the Privateers (4-7, 0-2 SLC) to a 79-73 win over North Dakota last week in UNO’s final non-conference matchup of the season. Franklin rattled off a career-high 33 points on 11-of-16 shooting and a 4-of-8 outing from three-point range. The award marks the second of the season for Franklin.

Franklin exploded for a new-career high 33 points after recording a 68.8-percent shooting mark Saturday afternoon in the Privateers’ non-conference victory over North Dakota. Her scoring performance stands as a Southland single-game high this season where Franklin is averaging 14.4 points per game. The senior is the first UNO player to score more than 30 points in a game since Randi Brown in the 2017-18 campaign. She has now scored over the 20-point mark in three of her last four contests and has registered double-digit scoring performances in six games this season.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
