107 points match new regulation record at Lakefront Arena

NEW ORLEANS – Monday was an evening of records for the University of New Orleans (3-7) as the Privateers defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State University (6-3) 107-59 at Lakefront Arena. The 107 points tied the most points scored in regulation as the Blue and Silver scored 107 points versus Saint Leo University in 2002.

The margin of victory was the largest since the 101-38 victory over Champion Baptist December 14, 2013 and Monday’s win was the 185th game coached by Mark Slessinger, tying Tim Floyd for second most in Privateers history.

Travin Thibodeaux surpassed the 20-point plateau for the third time this season with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting. The senior added eight rebounds and five steals in 23 minutes of action. Michael Zeno came off the bench with 11 points and eight rebounds, Ezekiel Charles went 4-for-4 and 3-of-3 from three-point range for 11 points and Scott Plaisance added 10 points and five boards.

UNO shot 56.3 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the charity stripe.

FIRST HALF

The Privateers jumped out to an 18-2 lead at the under-16 media behind Thibodeaux’s eight points and two steals and Champion’s six points.

At the half, New Orleans led 53-27 on 56.3 percent shooting. The Blue and Silver went 5-of-8 from three-point range and a perfect 12-of-12 from the charity stripe.

Thibdoeaux scored 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting and added five boards, three steals and two assists, Bryson Robinson scored seven points and dished out five assists and Troy Green added six points and five dimes. Charles scored nine points – all from three-point range – in the half.

SECOND HALF

The Privateers continued its hot shooting in the second period, hitting at a 56.4 percent clip. In the game, the Privateers second unit outscored the Aggies 49-to-8.

ABOUT UNO
Five players reached double figures led by Thibs’ 22. Zeno and Charles scored 11 points and Diontae Champion and Plaisance added 10. On the glass, Thibodeaux and Zeno led all players with eight rebounds apiece and Robinson led all with seven assists.

NEXT UP

The Privateers head to UAB Wednesday to battle the Blazers at 7 p.m.
