Privateers dominate boards in convincing victory against Nicholls
THIBODAUX, La. – Tara Green recorded her second consecutive double-double and the New Orleans Privateers led from wire-to-wire in an 83-68 win over the Nicholls Colonels on Thursday evening at Stopher Gym.
Green recorded 18 points and a career-best 16 rebounds in 20 minutes of play. Green helped pace a Privateer squad that was dominant on the boards as they out-rebounded Nicholls 51-25 for the game.
The rebounding margin was the largest by a Privateers squad since Dec. 12, 2018 when New Orleans was plus-32 on the glass against Dillard.
The Privateers rocketed out of the gate as they shot 60 percent from the field in the first quarter. New Orleans started the game on a 15-4 run in the opening 5:25. The Privateers poured in 27 points in the first 10 minutes and DeArica Pryor reached double figures by the end of the quarter.
Nicholls used the free throw line to get themselves back in the contest in the second. The Colonels went 8-of-9 from the charity stripe as a team while the Privateers had just two free throw attempts in the quarter.
The Colonels cut a 12-point deficit at the end of the first quarter to as little as five in the second. New Orleans went to the locker room ahead 43-37.
New Orleans came out of the locker room with the first six points to their name in the third quarter. From there, they never looked back. The Privateers connected on 49.2 percent of their shots and held Nicholls to 37.3 percent from the field.
INSIDE THE BOX
Pryor scored 23 points and added three steals. Zoe Cooper scored 12 points, pulled down eight boards and dished four assists. The Privateers had 18 assists for the night. All 14 Privateers played in the game and 12 got on the scoresheet.
Nicholls was led by Lexi Alexander who had 23 points and 10 rebounds. Adrian Mann added 18 points while Kyla Hamilton scored 12.
