Prep Volleyball Playoff Report: Dominican, Hannan, Country Day reach finals

Three local defending state champions have a chance to defend Saturday in Lafayette.

In Division I, defending champion and No. 1 Dominican easily downed No. 5 Southside 25-9, 25-10, 25-12.

Zoe Smith led the attack with 10 kills while Anne Hardouin and O’Neil Haddad each had seven kills for Dominican. Kate Baker dished up 32 assists and served three aces.

Dominican (46-2) advances to the title match to face No. 2 St. Joseph’s Academy.

The Redstickers (34-8) fought off No. 3 Mount Carmel Academy 30-28, 28-26, 23-25, 26-24.

Anna Musso led St. Joseph’s with 19 kills, Grace Toler had 15 kills and Morgan Perry delivered 14 kills.

Olivia Stant was a force for the Cubs with 29 kills and seven blocks while Lindsey Wickersham had 28 assists and three aces.

In Division II, No. 1 St. Thomas More eliminated No. 5 Belle Chasse 25-11, 25-9, 25-16.

Nya St. Cyr had six kill and two blocks for the Cardinals.

No. 2 Teurlings Catholic eliminated No. 3 Ben Franklin 25-23, 25-21, 25-17.

Grace Delpit led the Falcons with 15 kills and three blocks while Annabel Allen had 25 assists and seven digs.

St. Thomas More and Teurlings Catholic renew their rivalry in the championship match Saturday.

In Division III, defending champion and No. 1 Archbishop Hannan advanced to the title match with a convincing 25-11, 25-10, 25-9 win over St. Michael.

Rylee Morris led the Hawks with 15 kills and Sophia Bonnafee had 12 kills and eight digs.

The Hawks advance to take on E.D. White Catholic Saturday in the title match.

No. 2 E.D. White outlasted No. 3 Lutcher 21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 17-25, 15-7.

Brightlyn Ratcliff led the Cardinals with 17 kills while Caroline Bower finished with 15 kills.

Ashlyn St. Pierre led the Bulldogs with 25 kills while Josie Robertson had 15 kills. Allie Bland delivered 42 assists.

In Division IV, No. 5 Lafayette Christian upset top seed Ascension Episcopal 25-20, 27-25, 25-20 and the Knights will battle No. 2 Notre Dame for the title Saturday. The Pios defeated No. 3 Dunham 25-23, 25-19, 16-25, 25-23.

In Division V, No. 1 Country Day had no problem with No. 5 McGehee 25-16, 25-12, 25-19.

Tulane signee Nia Washington Washington had 19 kills and 22 digs while Ellie Schneider had 12 kills and four blocks to lead the Cajuns.

Country Day plays for another state championship Saturday against No. 3 Episcopal of Acadiana, who fought past No. 2 Westminster Christian 25-18, 15-25, 19-25, 28-26, 15-12.
