Prep Baseball: Shaw takes district win over St. Aug, Rummel snaps losing streak

Archbishop Shaw got its second Catholic League victory of the season, defeating St. Augustine 3-1 at Winterscheidt Stadium in Marrero.

Jacob Mouriz was dominant, pitching a complete game two-hitter for the win. Both hits were infield hits. He walked four and struck out 13. Peyton Clement had an RBI double, Pete Taylor stole home for the second run and Zac Delger doubled and scored on a double play grounder.

The Eagles (6-23, 2-6) open a two-game series against District 9-5A leader and defending district and Division I state champion John Curtis Christian Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Winterscheidt Stadium. The Purple Knights (15-13, 2-6) open a two-game series against Holy Cross Friday at 4 p.m. at RBI Field at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

At Gray, Archbishop Rummel and H.L. Bourgeois matched runs early but the Raiders pulled away late for a 15-6 non-district victory over the Braves. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Rummel.

Rummel and H.L. Bourgeois each scored four runs in the first inning and a run in the second to tie the game 5-5. The Raiders scored five runs in the fourth inning. After the Braves scored a run in the bottom of the frame to make it 10-6 but the Raiders answered with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and a run in the seventh to put the game away.

Kade Rivera drove in four runs for Rummel while Chandler Fields and Jake Fury each drove in three runs. Fury had a pair of hits to pace an eight-hit attack. Peyton Hancock went six and a third innings to pick up the win for Rummel, recording three strikeouts. Braden Doucet took the loss for H.L. Bourgeois (12-13). Austin Labat had three hits for the Braves, who were plagued by eight errors.

Rummel (15-12) returns to action Friday night at 7 p.m. at Lutcher while H.L. Bourgeois returns to action this afternoon in District 6-5A action at Hahnville at 4 p.m.
