Louisiana Girls Prep Basketball Playoff Report for Friday, Feb. 24

There will be a rematch of a semifinal game from one year ago in the LHSAA Girls Non-Select Division I semifinals next week in Hammond.

No. 1 Walker dispatched No. 8 Chalmette 60-33 at home.

The Wildcats controlled play from the start, jumping out to a 19-5 lead after one quarter before exploding to an insurmountable 38-9 halftime lead. It was 48-21 going to the final quarter.

Arjionne Patterson and Caitlin Travis each scored 14 points for Walker while Kennedi Ard added 12 points.

Krislynn Lucas scored 16 points for the Owls.

Walker (29-1) advances to the semifinals to take on defending state champion and No. 5 seed Ponchatoula.

The Green Wave went to No. 4 Zachary and downed the Broncos 67-58.

Ponchatoula led 17-13 after one quarter before Zachary rallied to take a 30-27 halftime lead.

The Green Wave (25-8) controlled play in the second half, outscoring the Broncos 20-16 in the third quarter to take a 47-46 lead before winning the fourth quarter 18-11 for the win.

Taylor Jackson put on a show, pumping in 30 points while Alyssa Hillard added 17 points for the Green Wave.. Lili Bush added nine points.

Alissa O’Dell led Zachary (27-6) with 22 points while Tiarra McPipe finished with 12 points.

Ponchatoula downed then top-seeded Zachary 69-59 in the semifinals a year ago before beating Parkway 80-79 in double overtime in the final.

Walker’s only loss this season was to Albany.

No. 3 Barbe eliminated No. 11 East St. John 73-59 and the Buccaneers will face No. 2 Parkway in the semifinals. The Panthers whipped No. 7 Natchitoches Central 58-24.

In Division II, No. 2 Albany rolled into the semifinals with an easy 67-22 over No. 7 West Feliciana. The Hornets will take on No.2 Brusly in the semifinals. Brusly ousted No. 22 Jennings 52-28.

In Non-Select Division III, No. 11 Winnfield handled No. 3 Springfield 65-49.

Winnfield will face defending state champion and No. 2 seed Amite in the semifinals. The Lady Warriors whipped No. 10 Bogalusa 74-42.

In the Select Division I quarterfinals, top seed and six-time defending state champion John Curtis Christian defeated No. 9 Liberty 85-59.

Top-seeded Curtis led 25-17 after one quarter and 39-26 at halftime. The Lady Patriots blew it open in the third quarter to take a commanding 67-41 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

Jania Holmes led John Curtis with 27 points while Imani Daniel had 22 points. Whitney Hart carried Liberty with 30 points.

The Lady Patriots (21-2) will meet No. 4 Scotlandville in the semifinals. The Hornets eliminated No. 5 Ben Franklin 66-40.

No. 3 St. Thomas More downed No. 6 Warren Easton 53-28.

It was close early with the Cougars carrying a 14-13 lead after one quarter. The Eagles were then shut down, scoring just 15 points the rest of the way as St. Thomas More pulled away.

Brynnan Boyd led the Cougars (25-5) with 14 points while AC Froelich had 12 points.

Kamryn Washington and Jaly Newman each scored nine points for Warren Easton (23-9).

In Division II, top seed Lafayette Christian took down No. 8 Archbishop Hannan 71-47.

The game was never close as the Knights led 46-20 at halftime.

Eve Alexander led LCA with 27 points while Jada Richard scored 22 points.

No. 3 St. Louis Catholic eliminated No. 6 De La Salle 70-45.

In Division III, No. 1 Newman advanced to the semifinals with a 38-30 win over No. 9 Glenmora. The Greenies (22-4) advance to the semifinals to take on No. 5 Parkview Baptist, who edged No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas 49-46.
