Plaquemine Green Devil Classic helps usher in the new year
Boys basketball holiday tournaments continue around the state.
The Plaquemine Green Devil Classic, starting Thursday, will feature a mix of South Louisiana squads.
The teams competing are the host Green Devils (7-6) along with St. James (6-5), Amite (5-6), Donaldsonville (3-9), White Castle (8-3) Assumption (7-9), McMain (10-7) and Helen Cox (9-6) who returns as the Defending Green Devil Classic Champion.
Plaquemine (7-6) is looking to win their own tournament this year as they fell just short last year to Helen Cox in the championship game 55-61.
The White Castle Bulldogs, another Iberville Parish School and the defending Class 1A State Champions, look to win this championship and make it a sweep of Iberville Parish Tournaments as they previously defeated Plaquemine 49-48 to win their own tournament.
Plaquemine head coach Donald Ray Johnson on the Green Devil Classic:
“This year in the Green Devil Classic we have eight teams who are all well-balanced. We know the tradition that White Castle has and also the two New Orleans teams (Helen Cox and McMain) bring from that that city – toughness that some local teams aren’t use to seeing. It will bring some competitive games which will produce a great turn out.”
