Pelicans waive Emeka Okafor

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans announced Wednesday that the team has requested waivers on center Emeka Okafor.

Okafor, 6-foot-10, 252 pounds, signed February 3 with New Orleans and finished the season with averages of 4.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.

The former NBA Rookie of the Year out of UConn played the New Orleans Hornets from 2009-12. The 35-yard old Okafor has also played for the Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizards.
