Pelicans ‘earn’ right for fifth uniform this season
The Pelicans have “earned” the right to add a fifth uniform combination to their arsenal for the 2018-19 season, but you’ll have to wait a couple of months to see it.
In addition to the four uniforms from last year named Association, Icon, Statement and City – which were the Pelicans’ white, blue, red and Mardi Gras-themed uniforms last season – the NBA’s 16 playoff teams from last season will add an Earned uniform to the mix this year.
None of the Earned uniforms will debut prior to Christmas, when the NBA has five games scheduled. According to the NBA’s Locker Vision database, the Pelicans are scheduled to debut the Earned combination on Dec. 29 at home against the Houston Rockets.
In the last two years, since the NBA switched to Nike as its uniform provider, it moved away from the traditional concept of white uniforms at home and dark uniforms on the road.
Last year, the Pelicans wore the red Statement uniforms for most Wednesday home games and the blue Icon uniforms for most Friday home games. That pattern appears to again be in place for the 2018-19 season, though New Orleans will wear red for its home opener against Sacramento on Oct. 19.
