NEW ORLEANS, La. – After a week on the road, the No. 29 Tulane baseball team opens a long stretch of home games at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as the team welcomes cross-town rival New Orleans for the first game of the 2019 Pelican Cup series.

The first in the three-game in-season series will air on WRBH 88.3 FM in New Orleans, with a video stream provided through Tulane All-Access. Links to audio and video, along with live stats and more can be found at TulaneGreenWave.com.

The Green Wave come into a new week with a new ranking, checking in for the first time since the 2016 season at No. 29 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30. Tulane is 6-1 on the season after taking two of three on the road at Cal State Fullerton over the weekend, claiming a series over the Titans for the first time in program history.

The team got its first taste of life on the road and came away with a 3-1 record through the four games, as the squad will not have to venture very far away from New Orleans the next few weeks with 12 of the next 13 games taking place at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The only road game mixed in will be the one game played in Baton Rouge against Southern during the split series against the Jaguars.

Tulane is batting .268 on the season coming into Wednesday night’s game, with six players having five or more hits though three weeks of the campaign. The squad has gotten key at-bats from both starters and reserves that aided in pulling out two of the three games against the Titans last weekend, which included a 1-0 win and a 6-4 win in games one and three.

On the mound, the Green Wave pitching staff continues to get strong performances both in starts and in relief, to the tune of a 2.22 earned run average through seven games. Opponents are hitting just .187 against Tulane pitchers, as last week that number was .178 with 37 strikeouts from opposing batters in 39 total innings of work.

New Orleans will get an early start to the week as the Privateers travel to Mobile to take on South Alabama Tuesday before taking on the Green Wave Wednesday. New Orleans is 4-3 heading into this week, sweeping Arkansas State on the road last weekend.

Since the resumption of the Pelican Cup in 2018, New Orleans has won five of the six contests to retain the trophy, with the Privateers winning all three games last year. The last win for Tulane against the Privateers came in the final game of the series in April 2018.
