Peck’s Seafood and Mandeville post wins; PJP ties Cretin Townsend Homes in CCS Prep Summer League

After being rained out Tuesday, Northshore-based Peck’s Seafood debuted in the Crescent City Prep Sports Summer League with a 4-2 victory Wednesday over Archbishop Shaw-based Refuel at Winterscheidt Field in Marrero.

Each team scored a run in the second inning. Peck’s took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning before the Eagles tied it with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Peck’s scored twice in the sixth inning to decide the outcome.

Noah Lasseigne homered, Ethan Freeman had two hits and an RBI and Andrew Vollenweider drove in a run for the Panthers. Peck’s Seafood used five pitchers with Ayden Strecker pitching a shutout inning in relief to get the win.

Wes Perque took the loss in relief for Refuel. Aiden Mire had a hit and an RBI while D.J. Miller doubled for the Eagles (0-1).

Refuel travels to Lakeshore at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Mandeville Gulf Coast Bank & Trust rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge De La Salle-based Courcelle Law at Mandeville.

Michael Scott started the rally when he was hit by a pitch and Peyton Lirette reached on an error, advancing Scott to third. Cooper Todd singled home Scott to tie the game with Lirette reaching second and Peyton Chiasson doubled off the wall in right, scoring Lirette with the winning run.

Peyton Gomez pitched scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. Gomez allowed two hits and walked one.

Left-fielder Jack Connaughton had two hits and threw a runner out at the plate.

Matt Bedi had a double and drove in three runs while Jackson Peri had two hits and an RBI for Courcelle Law. Alton Shorts took the loss in relief.

Mandeville (1-1) will host St. Charles Catholic-based Cretin Townsend Homes Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

In Slidell, Pope John Paul II played its first game after being rained out Tuesday and tied St. Charles Catholic-based Cretin Townsend Homes 7-7.

The Jaguars scored two runs in the bottom of the first and the Comets put up a run in the third to make it 2-1. Cretin Townsend Homes took a 5-2 lead with four runs in the top of the sixth before Pope John Paul II cut the deficit to 5-4 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Comets scored twice in the top of the seventh to increase the lead to 7-4 but Pope John Paul scored three in the bottom of the inning to create the tie.

Pope John Paul II overcame five errors.
